With hundreds of thousands of young pilgrims from around the world, a Salesian Youth Ministry group, and a group from the Salesian Sisters URSpace Glasgow project, arrived in Krakow this week for the 31st World Youth Day.

One of the highlights was the Salesian Youth Ministry day, attended by Mother Yvonne Reungoat, Superior General of the Salesian Sisters, and Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco. The international event was attended by around 6000 young people. Mass was celebrated, the Blessed Sacrament exposed for adoration, and plenty of fun and games were had, with singing and dancing thrown in. The Good Night was given at the end of the day by Mother Yvonne and Fr Ángel. Read more about it on ANS.

Although the weather was sometimes a little British, it didn't dampen the pilgrims' spirit at the open air masses or the amazing catechesis experiences, and the excitement of being with Pope Francis and hearing his message to them brought plenty of sunshine.

We wish them, and all the WYD pilgrims, every belssing for the rest of their time in Krakow, and a safe journey home.

School unit names after sr. Hilary Terret...

Written by

On Tuesday October 9th 2012 Hilary House was opened as a unit for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder in the grounds of Sacred heart Primary SAchool Battersea. The unit was called after Sr. Hilary FMA who taught in the school from1996-2004 when ill health caused her to retire. She continued to serve the children especially those with special needs until her untimely death in January. The unit consists of two classrooms both speciall constructed to hold 8 children each and a sensory room that will allow the children space to develop skills and also as a calm space where children can relax. Having it attached to the praimary school means that the children on this spectrum will be guaranteed support in main stream education until 18 years of age. It is a great honour that this unit has been named after Sr. Hilary as education of the young was her raison d'etre where she found fulfilment in her vocation. Members of Hilary's religiouss and natural family were present for the blessing by Archbishop Peter Smith

Youth Easter 2012

Written by

35 Young people assembled in Brettargh Holt to celebrate the Easter Tridium together. The services prepared and carried out by the young people were meaningful and at times emotional. With the Easter fire to the house being filled with the Light of the risen Christ on Easter Day and joyful Alleluias echoing through the chapel the group left having experienced a new dimension to the the Easter liturgy and of making new friends.

Salesian Sister's Assembly 2012

Written by

All those Sisters who could, gathered from March 9th -11th for time to share, pray and reflect. As always at Salesian gatherings there was much chatting and exchanging of news from north to south and back again. Time was initially given to consideration of Sr. Pauline, our Provincial’s Report. Gratitude was expressed for all the serious decisions that had been taken over the year as a response to the discernment made by Sr. Pauline with her council after last year’s assembly. There followed Sr. Helen, our bursar’s report on the financial state of the province.

European Sisters Evaluate their XXII Chapter

Written by

Time and tide wait for no man… This is certainly true for the Salesian Sisters. It is three years since they held their XXII Chapter, with the mandate to revive the charismatic identity as a prophecy to the world, a call for all the FMA to be converted to love and express love, as a community in the educative mission. No small requirement, as can be easily imagined.
