On Friday March 16th, many KS2 pupils from our primary feeder schools came to Salesian School Chertsey for our “Celebrating RE Day”, an event that has now become an annual feature in our school calendar.

Pupils in the deanery from near and far came for a morning based on the theme of Vocation. A welcome, opening prayer and blessing by the School Chaplain introduced the day whilst the programme outline was shared by Mrs M Morrison, RE teacher and Celebrating RE Day Co-ordinator.

Salesians have close connections with their schools, and this is especially valuable in seasons such as Lent, when their availability to support the priests, brothers and lay staff on the chaplaincy teams in offering the sacraments to students and staff is especially important.

This group of committed young people regularly attend the youth group "Create Space" in Kendal, which was born out of the Salesian Spirituality Team.

During the stay, Mary and Iain delivered the VIDES Youth Leadership Course, encouraging the young people to think about their own gifts and talents while focusing on their future leadership potential. The theme for the stay was "You are young, you are precious, you are loved." They took time to look at the lives of St. John Bosco and St. Mary Mazzarello, as well as discussing and reflecting on the Salesian way of working with young people.

Preparations for Holy Week and Easter in Bootle

Written by

College Chaplain, Fr Jakub Ruszniak SDB, describes how students at Savio Salesian College Bootle, have been getting ready for the holiest time of the year.

In the last week, we've been preparing for Holy Week and Easter. Many pupils participated in shoe box appeal as a form of Lenten alms giving; this was in support of the local SVP group. We also had the Stations of the Cross service - stations were placed in different places of the school building.

Finally, Year 8 students had their retreats in the Blessed Sacrament parish centre, where we reflected about the meaning of Lent.
