The spiritual exercises of the Capitulars
(ANS – Rome, 26 February 2002) – At 7.20 p.m. on 26 February, the members of the GC25 began the Retreat in preparation for their work of reflection and discussion in the assembly which brings together 213 representatives of all the salesian communities scattered round the world.
The retreat continued until Saturday 2 March and was preached by Bishop Alois Kothgasser SDB, Bishop of Innsbruck (Austria). The theme running through his reflections was “Duc in altum”, in relationship with the Apostolic Letter Novo Millennio Ineunte, and the Strenna given by the late lamented Fr Juan E. Vecchi to the Salesian Family as the Strenna for this year.
Among the significant items during the retreat was a visit to the tomb of Fr Vecchi at the Catacombs of St Callistus on the Via Appia Antica in Rome, and a Eucharist presided over by Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga SDB, Archbishop of Tegucigalpa (Honduras). |
