Presentation of the “Working Document” of the GC25
(ANS – Rome, 26 February 2002) – The use of computer-graphics characterized the afternoon of the second working-day of the GC25, when two important documents were presented for the organization of the time and methods for the Chapter’s work.
The working document on “The Salesian Community today”, drawn up last September by the Pre-capitular Commission, was presented by Fr Francesco Cereda, Superior of the UPS Vice-province and a member of the commission. In four main points he explained how the Precapitular Commission had worked, the criteria it had used, its methods and the content of the document.
A second document had also been prepared by the Precapitular Commission. It bore the title: “Evaluation of the central structures of animation and government”; it was presented by Fr John Dickson of the Great Britain Province. This too is made up of four parts. The first three (evaluation of the rapport between the Rector Major with his Council and the Provinces and Regions, the Councillors at the head of Departments, the Regional Councillors) take up the replies of the Provinces to the questions put to the provincial chapters. The fourth part (Animation and government) deals with problems raised in many of the interventions of provincial chapters.
The Precapitular Commission, it was recalled, was made up of 17 Salesians, two from each of the seven Regions into which the salesian world is divided, one from the Generalate, one from the UPS and the Moderator of the Chapter. The working instrument, i.e. the document produced by the Commission has been in the hands of the capitulars since last November for their personal study and preparation for the General Chapter. It now represents one of the most important points of reference for the Chapter’s study and reflection.
