Fifty years of Priesthood
Fr George Williams was ordained as a Salesian Priest on 18th July 1954 and fifty years later to the day he celebrated his Golden Jubilee at St Joseph’s in Bolton.
In the photograph, Fr George, right, is receiving the certificate of a Papal Blessing from his present Rector, Fr Michael Cunningham.
Fr George was Provincial in Great Britain from 1964 to1970. He was then summoned to Rome and served from 1971 to 1983 as General Councillor for the English speaking region, travelling many times around the world to visit Salesian provinces in the USA, Australia and India as well as Great Britain.
From 1983 to 2002 he stayed at the Salesian Generalate working as a translator of official documents, a service he continues to undertake, via email, from his room at our house for elderly Salesians.
