Funeral of Fr Pat McCambridge RIP
Fr McCambridge's funeral on Monday, 26th November, was a wonderful occasion. His parish church of St James in Bootle was packed to overflowing and there were nearly 70 priests, Salesian and Diocesan, concelebrating. The Archbishop of Liverpool presided and one of his coadjutor bishops was also present. Everyone had wanted to take part. There were choirs from the parish primary school and Savio High School, where he had been Chair of Governors. The Bidding Prayers were led by representatives of the schools, St Richard’s and St James’ parishes and the Don Bosco Youth Centre. An Irish girl dancer led the offertory procession, accompanied by a solo violin. There was a lament played on the 'tin whistle' during communion and an Irish piper to lead the hearse out to the main road. It was a fitting send off for someone who had given 30 years of his life to work in Bootle.
