Final Mass as Parish Priest
The Sacred Heart Parish, Battersea bade 'farewell' to Fr Peter Brealey and 'happy retirement' to Fr Patrick McGrath on the evening of 7th May. The church was alive and most definitely well with some 300 parishioners celebrating Mass and enjoying each other's company at the reception which followed. The response to all that was organised for the celebration was magnificent - a wonderful tribute to Fr Peter and Fr Pat and their ministry in Battersea, and also a welcome tonic for Fr Christopher Heaps to know that he can look forward to such tremendous support from his parishioners.
Fr Peter, in the centre of the picture, was Parish Priest at Battersea for nine years with Fr Pat McGrath (in the SDB stole) as his inimitable curate.
Fr Peter moves on, after a short sabbatical break, to take responsibility for the Salesian Parish of St Anne’s in Chertsey, while Fr Pat McGrath, who wears his years lightly, will be remaining in Battersea in a less demanding role.
Below Fr Peter and Fr Pat are seen cutting the cake specially made for the occasion.
