Don Pascual Chavez sends his greetings
Before Fr Michael Winstanley took his oath of office, Don Adriano Bregolin read a message from the Rector Major. The photograph above, taken by Don Adriano, shows Fr Pascul Chávez in Naples, June 2003.
Very dear Fr Francis Preston and Fr Michael Winstanley,
Loving greetings from Rome.
Just a few words to thank you, Francis, for the generous and fruitful service on behalf of the Province.
I know that you have done an outstanding job, trying to be like Don Bosco for the confreres, the Salesian Family, the Lay people and the youngsters: very fatherly, open, and at the same time very challenging. You succeeded.
I still remember my visit to the Province a year ago. I enjoyed it, because the confreres were very welcoming and they made me feel at home, and also because the whole atmosphere was very salesian. Congratulations, Francis.
There are many things to be commended and I do willingly.
Now you may take a sabbatical year in preparation for the next mission in Jerusalem. God bless you, Francis!
As for you, Michael, I would like to wish you a happy ministry.
You know the job and have experience, and above all you want to do your best.
As a biblical scholar and a spiritual man, you are aware that God is carrying forward his wonderful design of salvation and that we are just instruments in His hands.
So let the Holy Spirit lead your life. And may Don Bosco be always your model.
I trust you and all the Confreres to the motherly care and intercession of Mary Help of Christians.
In God's love.
Fr Pascual Chávez V.
