(ANS – Roma, 11 March 2002)

The third week has begun for the members of the General Chapter. This week they are involved in their commissions and their time is divided between individual research and group discussions.

The first five commissions, concerned with the theme of community, have the task of producing the first draft of a document which will be presented to the full assembly at the end of the week.

The sixth commission, working on the structures of government of the congregation, will have to produce its final document before the elections of the new General Councillors (shortly after Easter).

The day began with a session in the main assembly hall. After the reading of the minutes of the earlier plenary sessions, the Chapter members were presented with the proposed timetable for the coming weeks and messages from the Salesian Family expressing requests and expectations.

Last weekend about a hundred of the Chapter members enjoyed a visit to Naples.

The convalescence of Fr Luc Van Looy, Vicar General of the Salesians, is progressing well, after the operation on his thigh last Wednesday, 6th March at the Pius XI Hospital in Rome, following his road accident on Saturday afternoon 2nd March.

Today Fr Van Looy began physiotherapy and for the first time was able to get out of bed (he jokingly calls it his “chapter bed”) for about an hour. He is unable as yet to put any weight on his leg, but the surgeons and the physiotherapists are happy with his progress.

From today on the site www.sdb.org in the section devoted to the Salesian News Agency (ANS), a Video information service has been inaugurated. It is intended to provide a Video summary that ANS and Don Bosco Missions of Turin are preparing each week and showing to the members of the chapter every Monday evening, covering events of the previous week. Thanks to the technical support of Edulife of Verona, the Video is available on the ANS site by clicking on ANSvideo. (Fr Bernard Grogan has kindly sent a translation of the text of the interview. Click here to read it.)

ANS is also covering the activities of the Chapter in other ways (N7. Digital Photo, Service etc.) The daily news items are published regularly on the site of the Generalate.
