Fr Michael Winstanley takes office
On Friday 20th August 2004, Fr Michael Thomas Winstanley took over from Fr Francis Preston as Provincial of the Great Britain Province of the Salesians of Don Bosco. Fr Michael had served an earlier six-year term of office from 1986 to 1992.
In a simple ceremony during a celebration of the Eucharist at the Provincial House in Stockport Fr Michael professed his faith, took an oath of fidelity and signed the official papers sent by the Rector Major, Don Pascual Chávez.
By a happy coincidence, Don Adriano Bregolin, Vicar of the Rector Major, was at the Provincial House, where he is attending a course to improve his English. Don Adriano read, in English, a message of encouragement and thanks from Don Pascual. (Click here for the text of the message.)
