A Weekend to Remember!
On the Saturday morning the Don Chávez went to Matadi, where there is a Salesian parish, a school, and a youth centre. Also present were representatives of the Don Bosco Polytechnic and Don Bosco Homes.
Some of the local elders presented Don Chávez with gifts symbolising authority, an ornamental cow tail, a live chicken, and a key to New Matadi.
There was a procession to the Youth Centre with the local drums much in evidence.
At the Sean Devereux Youth Centre the flags of Don Bosco and of Liberia were raised, accompanied by the singing of the National Anthem.
Don Chávez presided at 10am Mass in the Sean Devereux Hall, assisted by twelve other priests. During the Mass the Offertory Procession included gifts representing the different works of the Salesians in Liberia. About 800 were in the congregation.
One of many photographs taken after the Mass, this one including some of the concelebrants and members of the choirs.
