The aim for this year’s National Training Weekend is to explore Salesian Leadership as a ‘matter of the heart’ and focuses particularly on leaderships of groups as ‘animation’, ‘formation’ and ‘education’ and will examine the subtle differences. The facilitation of the weekend is ‘shared’ – with Mark K. Smith and Michele Erina Doyle offering their expertise on Informal Education (focusing particularly on their book ‘Born and Bred’) and Dave O’Malley and Jan Lavery making the links with Salesian Spirituality. Who are Mark and Michele? Mark K. Smith is the rank Research Fellow and Tutor at the YMCA George Williams College. Among his publications are ‘Creators not Consumers’, ‘Developing Youth Work’ ‘Informal Education,’ ‘Born and Bred’. Michele Erina Doyle is a tutor at the YMCA George Williams College. Formerly a youth and community educator supported by the Rank Charities, she now work with them to develop education programmes. Among her publications is ‘Born and Bred’. This is a Weekend not to be missed – we believe that Mark and Michele, who are leading thinkers on informal education in this country, have something very special to offer in terms of exploring, with new insights, ‘Leadership and Relationships’. |
