Feast of St Louis Orione

On 16th May, we celebrate the Feast of St Louis Orione.

St Louis came from a humble family, and always identified with the poor, and wished to serve them. In his early life, he went to study at the oratory at Valdocco, where he was befriended by the elderly Don Bosco. Both the oratory and its founder had a powerful and lasting impression on Louis.

He went on to found the Little Work of Divine Providence, which is made up of the Sons of Divine Providence and the Little Missionary Sisters of Charity.

Louis died in 1940, and was canonised in 2004 by St John Paul II, who spoke these words about him:

Passion for Christ was the soul of his bold life, the interior thrust of an altruism without reservations, the always fresh source of an indestructible hope. This humble son of a man who repaired roads proclaimed that only charity will save the world, and to everyone he would also say that perfect joy can only be found in perfect dedication of oneself to God and man, and to all mankind.
