New BOVA volunteers head overseas

AngelaPeterBOVACollage 2017

Anita Motha introduces the two latest BOVA volunteers as they settle into their overseas placements.

This summer has been particularly busy for two new BOVA volunteers, Peter and Angela, as they have been preparing for long term overseas placements with Salesian communities. After receiving excellent A-level results and securing their first choices of university offers, they are eagerly anticipating the start of their placements.

Peter, 18, will spend 10 months volunteering at Don Bosco Don Thuan, a boarding house and vocational school with 180+ students in the south of Vietnam. The community has a particular focus on working with destitute young people from the surrounding areas. Part of Peter's role will be to assist with teaching English as part of the school's new English programme, as well as assisting with the boarding house and the outreach work with teenagers from the local area.

Angela, also 18, will spend 7 months at Don Bosco Sihanoukville. Based in the international tourist hub of Sihanoukville in the south of Cambodia, the works of this house include a technical school, boarding house, a hospitality training centre, prison outreach, and early years education. The Salesians also run a hotel, guest house and cafe to create employment opportunities for the young people they train. Angela will be assisting with the nursery and early years education as well as working with young women (boarders) from the technical school.

We ask you to keep them in your prayers as they begin the next steps of their journey, and to continue to pray for volunteers Joe in India, and James in Vietnam.

Do keep an eye out for updates from Peter and Angela's placements.
