Chaplain Fr Jakub SDB accompanied students from Savio Salesian College on a special pilgrimage last week

Among other things, my hope is always that Chaplaincy provides an opportunity for the young people to meet with Don Bosco. In the course of the year pupils make dramas based on his life, draw pictures, learn Salesian songs. But there's nothing quite like experiencing the very places were Don Bosco lived and where our Salesian story began. That's why last week we've prepared something very special for a group of Y11s from our chaplaincy group - a pilgrimage to Turin.

A group of Salesian Sisters has been following in the footsteps of St Teresa in the beautiful medieval walled city of Avila, 'Town of Stones and Saints'.

They have visited the Convent of St Teresa, on the site of her former home, where a recreation of the room in which she was born has her father's record of her birth painted on the wall: 'On Wednesday, 28th March 1515, Teresa my daughter was born, within half an hour or so of five o'clock in the morning, on the said Wednesday almost at dawn.'

Savio Salesian College in Lourdes

SavioSalesianLourdes2017Gp

Pupils and staff from Savio Salesian College, Bootle, are having an amazing expereince in Lourdes this week. The trip is an eagerly anticipated feature of the school's life, and pupils have been hard at work fundraising for many months.

In true Salesian style, the trip combines a pilgrimage and a holiday for the young people, with moving visits to the Shrine and churches, along with opportunities to relax, have fun and visit local attractions.

On the last Sunday of the Christmas term, the Lourdes Group at Savio Salesian College, Bootle, undertook a Charity Sing-a-Long at Sainsbury's Rice Lane, Liverpool to support the college's annual pilgrimage to Lourdes.

Thirty seven pupils and five staff, with the support of Mr Bennett's 60's Band 'GENEVIVE' entertained staff and costumers with Christmas hits and carols. The pupils represented the school impressively, and raised over £660! This brings the total amount raised for Lourdes since September to £2200, which is nearly half way to their goal of £5000 which will be used to fund the pilgrimage.
