"Our Lord has written the promise of resurrection, not in books alone, but in every leaf in springtime." – Martin Luther King Jr.

At this special time of year, we have books to inspire and delight you. Accompany your little ones 'On the Road to Emmaus' or through 'Via Lucis: The Way of the Light'. Or perhaps, reflect with Fr Michael on the Gospel resurrection narratives in 'Alive'.

Blessed Joseph Kowalski

Blessed Joseph Kowalski

Date: 29th May 2023

Fr Józef Kowalski was one of 12 Salesians arrested by the Gestapo in Krakow on 23 May 1941, for continuing with their education and youth work in defiance of a ban on non-approved programmes. He was sent to Auschwitz on 26th June, where he did all he could to encourage his fellow prisoners in Block 25, bringing them spiritual comfort and urging their will to survive.

On 3rd July 1942, he was severely beaten and then drowned. He was 31 years old.

Do not worry about me; I am in God's hands. I want to assure you that I feel His help at every step. Despite the present situation, I am happy and completely at peace. - Bl Józef Kowalski's last letter to his parents.

Blessed Józef features in 'The Salesian Martyrs of Auschwitz' by Dr Alasdair Richardson, published by Don Bosco Publications, available from our online bookshop.
