"Our Lord has written the promise of resurrection, not in books alone, but in every leaf in springtime." – Martin Luther King Jr.

At this special time of year, we have books to inspire and delight you. Accompany your little ones 'On the Road to Emmaus' or through 'Via Lucis: The Way of the Light'. Or perhaps, reflect with Fr Michael on the Gospel resurrection narratives in 'Alive'.

Thornleigh student 'braves the shave' in memory of Grandad

During the Christmas holiday, Delilah, a Year 8 student at Thornleigh Salesian College Bolton, took part in the 'Brave the Shave' initiative, for Lymphoma Action , raising over £2,700 in memory of her beloved grandad, who died from Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in May 2020, by sacrificing her beautiful 22-inch-long tresses.

Twelve-year-old Delilah has so far exceeded her fundraising target by over £1500. She also donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real-hair wigs to young people who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment or other medical issues. Her mum handled the shears for the shave, which was streamed on YouTube, and her younger sister was beside her for moral support.

Delilah explained her motivation for the fundraiser: "I miss [my Grandad] very much and I hope I can raise money to help other people going through the same illness and make him proud."

We are certain he would be extremely proud of Delilah for her selfless action for others, and so is her school and all of the Salesian Family.

If you would like to donate, the link to Delilah's JustGiving page is under "More information" below.
