November, a month of remembrance; remembering the souls in purgatory and those who gave their lives for us in war.

According to Thomas Hood (1799–1845), it is also a month of: "No sun, no moon; no morn, no noon...no warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease." ('November'). But here at Don Bosco Publications, we have lots of warmth, cheerfulness and healthful ease to offer. So, wrap up warm and curl up with a good book to brighten your day, and join us as we rush headlong to Advent.

Sunday Reflection - 33rd Sunday of Ordinary Time (Year C)

The journey of Jesus to Jerusalem, a theme covering 10 chapters in the Gospel of Luke, is now complete. He has finally arrived on what we now call Palm Sunday, though without the palms. He has wept over the city, entered the temple and driven out those selling things there, maintaining that the temple was a house of prayer, not a market. He has subsequently visited the temple on a daily basis and taught...

Sunday Reflection - Dedication of the Lateran Basilica

Posted: Tue, 4 Nov 2025 14:18

Liturgically, today is the feast of the dedication of the Lateran Basilica in Rome, which takes priority over the 32nd Sunday. The Lateran basilica, dating from the early 4th century, and not St Peter's, is the official seat of the Bishop of Rome, and so is the Pope's church. And so we pray today for Pope Leo. This is also Remembrance Sunday when we commemorate those who have given their lives for...

European Schools Meeting in Rome

European Schools Meeting in Rome

Posted: Tue, 4 Nov 2025 11:16

There are well over 300 Salesian High Schools across Europe and thirteen Salesian Universities. Belgium alone has 33 Salesian Schools and I haven't been able to count the number of primary schools.
The scale of this network across Europe was brought home to me forcefully when I was invited to meet with the European Commission for Salesian Schools in Rome in October. The time and the place were not...
