Rector Major's Message - December 2025 - The Christmas Grotto Where Heaven Meets Earth
Posted: Wed, 26 Nov 2025 14:39
The mystery of Christmas begins with a "scandal of love": the Great One who makes Himself little.
It's not a poetic image, but the most shocking reality in human history.
God, the Infinite, chooses to become finite; the Almighty chooses the fragility of a newborn baby who cannot yet speak, walk, or defend Himself. It is pure gratuitousness made manifest, a gift that seeks nothing in return, that imposes...

Sunday Reflection - 1st Sunday of Advent (Year A)
Posted: Mon, 24 Nov 2025 14:57
We are about to set out on our Advent journey. Advent, I maintain, is such a beautiful liturgical season, one in which I always feel at home and which I enjoy. The basic meaning of the word, as you know so well, is 'coming' or 'arrival'. So Advent is a period of waiting for someone to come, for the 'coming of the Lord'. It's a time of anticipation and preparation.
We all know what it is like to wait....
Drawing New Maps of Hope

Pope Leo's Apostolic Letter "Drawing New Maps of Hope" is a strong reaffirmation of "Gravissimum Educationis" from 1965, emerging from Vatican II. Both texts point to an awareness that education is part of the fabric of evangelisation and therefore at the heart of the church mission. Education is presented as vital to the life and the health of the church. Leo, like Francis before him, has been a classroom...
Sunday Reflection - Christ the King (Year C)
Posted: Wed, 19 Nov 2025 13:25
Today our liturgical focus is Christ our King. This is the last Sunday of the liturgical year. The first reading, which recalls the anointing of David as king of Israel, highlights two aspects of kingship: "You shall be shepherd of my people Israel, you shall be leader of Israel." In his youth David was a shepherd, and it was from that role that he was called to a different kind of shepherding.
These...

Sunday Reflection - 33rd Sunday of Ordinary Time (Year C)
Posted: Tue, 11 Nov 2025 10:19
The journey of Jesus to Jerusalem, a theme covering 10 chapters in the Gospel of Luke, is now complete. He has finally arrived on what we now call Palm Sunday, though without the palms. He has wept over the city, entered the temple and driven out those selling things there, maintaining that the temple was a house of prayer, not a market. He has subsequently visited the temple on a daily basis and taught...

(ANS – Rome) – The poster that will accompany the Rector Major Fr Fabio Attard's Strenna for 2026, has been chosen and is now available online. It is a graphic expression of the motto already announced last August: 'DO WHATEVER HE TELLS YOU. Believers, free to serve'. Below is an explanation of the image that makes up the poster.
