Year 13 Philosophy Conference

On Wednesday 26 November, Year 13 students took part in an enriching A-Level conference at St John Bosco College, Battersea. The event brought together students from four Salesian schools; Farnborough, Chertsey, Battersea and Bolton, for a day of academic collaboration and intellectual challenge.

The conference featured two distinguished speakers whose work is central to the A Level Philosophy and Ethics specification: Daphne Hampson and Fr Martin Poulsom SDB. Their sessions explored key topics such as the Ontological Argument and the existence of God, as well as gender and feminist theology. These presentations provided students with fresh insights and critical perspectives that will prove invaluable for their upcoming exams.

Beyond revisiting core content, the speakers encouraged students to think deeply about how philosophical and theological ideas shape contemporary debates. Engaging directly with scholars of this calibre offered a unique opportunity to clarify complex concepts and strengthen analytical skills—essential for success at A-Level.

The day also fostered a sense of community, as students collaborated with peers from other schools, sharing ideas and broadening their understanding in a supportive environment. This combination of expert input and peer discussion made the conference a truly valuable experience.

As we approach the exam season, events like this remind us that Philosophy and Ethics is not just about learning theories—it's about engaging with questions that matter. We are confident that the insights gained will inspire our students to approach their studies with renewed enthusiasm and confidence.
