Dr Alasdair Richardson spoke about his new book 'The Salesian Martyrs of Auschwitz' at the first of a short series of webinars hosted by Hampshire Inspection & Advisory Service this week. The theme of the series is 'Holocaust & Genocide: Issues for Religious Education', and the attendees included RE teachers and advisors from around the region.

Happy 179th Birthday to all in the Salesian family!
Our tradition has it that our great Salesian family was 'born' on this day, 8th December in 1841. According to the story that most of us are familiar with, Don Bosco was preparing to celebrate the feast-day mass of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in the Church of St Francis of Assisi. New book on the Salesians of Auschwitz in final stages of preparation

'The Salesian Martyrs of Auschwitz,' a new book by Dr Alasdair Richardson, is in its final stages of production and will be published by Don Bosco Publications in January 2021. The book will be available to buy from our online bookshop following its launch, costing £12 +p&p, and orders can also be placed by email, post or phone.

Restored film of Blessed Michael Rua's funeral in 1910

In the month of his feast, a remarkable 110-year-old silent film of the funeral of Blessed Michael Rua, first successor of Don Bosco, has been restored by the Italian National Museum of Cinema the National Corporate Cinema Archive. The partnership has been entrusted with the Salesians' photographic archive, and the footage of the events of 6-9 April 1910 is one of the first fruits of their work.
