Summer's here, the days are getting longer, and June is the month when we celebrate Father's Day and Volunteers' Week along with the summer solstice, midsummer, St John the Baptist's Feast Day and the Wimbledon tennis tournament. June is also traditionally dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. During this time, we call to mind Christ's love for us, which is visible in the image of his pierced heart.

Take some time out from the busyness of June to reflect and read some of the books we offer.

The Salesians of Don Bosco UK

I am delighted to welcome you to the website of the Salesian Province of Great Britain, a site incorporating the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), The Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) and the various groups within the Salesian Family. My hope is that this site will become the first port of call, not simply for Salesian news, but for those who are interested in deepening their personal spirituality and knowledge of Don Bosco.
Two hundred years after his birth, his mission to encourage his Salesians to be young with the young, and to form them as good Christians and honest citizens, able to contribute to the building up of the Church and of society, is as relevant as it ever has been.
Fr Gerry Briody SDB, Provincial

Who is St John Bosco

St John Bosco is remembered as a man who dedicated his life to the service of abandoned young people. Over 150 years ago he challenged the way young people were treated in the desperate poverty that existed at that time in the city of Turin, Italy.

John Bosco created an order in the Catholic Church, called the Salesians. They were founded in the poverty of a city we consider to be one of the most prosperous in the world today.

Salesian Books

Don Bosco speaks to:

Parents

Give timely advice. A fatherly word in private is worth much more than reproach.

Teachers

Sweeten correction with comfort. Correction at times brings about anxiety and fear. A word of comfort can easily offset this. A person who forgets and helps the culprit to forget is a true educator.

Young People

It is a mistake to skirt difficulties or to skip what you don't understand and go on to something else. Tackle the obstacle until you have overcome it.

Priests

You must behave so as to edify all who see you; you must try to help others not only by advice but mostly by example.
