Appeals

The Salesian Province (GBR) have launched an emergency appeal to provide disaster relief for those impacted by the devastating earthquakes in Syria-Turkey on 6th February 2023.

The funds will be used to help bring critical medical supplies, food, water, shelter and support to survivors, helping them to heal and rebuild their lives. Salesian missionaries living and working in Syria and Turkey were among those first at the scene of the impact. The Salesian center in Aleppo sustained some minor damage and people rushed to the center for support.

Some families took refuge in the Salesian house in Aleppo. They arrived with only the clothes they had on. Many people have died and many buildings have collapsed, so the Salesians are offering shelter, food and emergency aid with all the basic necessities they can offer in the immediate aftermath.

Salesians around the globe are working to provide the financial and material resources needed to help those who have been impacted by the earthquake.

If you would like to contribute directly to this work please either:

1. Send a cheque to Mrs. N. Howell at the Salesian Provincial Office, Thornleigh House, Sharples Park, Bolton, Lancashire, BL1 6PQ clearly marked SYRIA EARTHQUAKE. All cheques should be made out to SDB Trustees. We will ensure the money is collected and sent asap to the Salesians there.

2. Make a donation through our new dedicated JustGiving Page:

If you are able to Gift Aid your donation this will significantly increase the amount of money we can send directly to those affected in the region.

Please also keep the people in Syria/Turkey and our Salesian brothers, who are working in the affected areas, in your prayers.

It has nearly been 1 full year, since Russia invaded Ukraine. In that time, it's estimated that nearly 40,000 civilians and about 10,000 soldiers have been killed, and an estimated 8 million people have been displaced.

And as we enter the Winter season, there are struggles for those that are still living in Ukraine.

Here is an update from the Salesians working in Lviv:

On 21/1/23 "Winterization" support- food- was delivered to Lviv, Ukraine. A few days later it was in the hands of people in Kherson, thanks to the efficient work of the Salesians. The situation is very unstable. People suffer lack of water & electricity. Everyday life is many times harder. Many people cannot work. Many have lost their homes due to the shelling. The neediest received products with a long shelf-life – sugar, flour, rice, pasta, oil, etc. This generous collaboration among the Salesian family enables us to help many others in need.
