SHARE Fridge Magnets for the Porridge Club

On the Third Sunday of Lent, Yr 12 students from Salesian College Farnborough visited local Catholic parishes to sell fridge magnets in aid of the Porridge Club in Mazabuka, Zambia. They raised over £2000.

Each year a group of sixth formers and staff from the College goes to Zambia to help out at the City of Joy, a work for vulnerable girls run by the Salesian Sisters. They also support the Porridge Club which provides a nourishing breakfast for over 1200 children attending the Lulobolowla school in the parish of the Assumption. This has a significant effect on the school attendance and learning of the pupils.

As part of the fundraising for this project, through 'SHARE' (Charity number: 1197901), Angelo designed fridge magnets carrying the message 'Remember your Lenten Promise'. The selling price of £10 roughly equates to the cost of providing porridge for one child for an entire year. Milly and Angelo gave appeals at Our Lady Help of Christians parish in Farnborough and sold the magnets after the Saturday evening and Sunday morning Masses. Eve did the same at the parish of Saint Edmund in Godalming.

On the Fourth Sunday of Lent, Vincent will be visiting Holy Angels in Ash and Angelo will visit Saint Bede's in Basingstoke. They are very grateful to all the parish priests for allowing them to speak at the Masses.
