Last week, Yr 8 at St John Bosco College were on a mission to find evidence to support the claim that St Augustine's mission to bring Christianity to England in 597AD was successful.

On Thursday 13 May, we come together today to celebrate Ascension Day—the day of homecoming for Jesus. This year it falls on the feast of St Mary Mazzarello, who founded the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, the Salesian Sisters, with Don Bosco. She is very much in the school of hands-on saints who heeded the words of the angels in our first reading, 'why ... are you looking up into the sky?'... Read More »

I love this modern painting of two great Salesian saints, Laura Vicuña and Dominic Savio—both were teenagers who can still teach adults so much, especially in these difficult times. I had a copy of this painting in the chaplaincy in Savio Salesian College, Bootle; I remember well when a student pointed up to it and asked me, "is she Dominic's girlfriend?"It made me stop and think; when... As we enter this beautiful month of May, our thoughts naturally turn to Mary of Nazareth, Mother of God and Don Bosco's constant 'help'. I was delighted to receive a beautiful statue from a beloved family member called 'Maternal Bond' and it now stands on my desk—a constant reminder to me of that love of Mary so simply expressed in the gospels and our rich Christian tradition. It was designed... Read More »
