On the weekend of the 19th-21st April 2024, past pupils from Shrigley Hall met for a retreat led by Fr Michael Winstanley SDB.
The retreat was based around the appearances of Jesus in the Gospels following his rising after his crucifixion.
The group stayed at Savio House and enjoyed the food and camaraderie concluding the weekend with a Mass celebrated by Fr Michael and Fr Joe Tran SDB.

Reflection - Feast of Joseph the Worker
Posted: Wed, 1 May 2024 14:33
I never really liked the depiction of Joseph as some old man who cared for Mary and Jesus as a gentle grandfather—at home with his pipe and slippers. The danger of such a vision relegates Joseph to a passive character in the Holy Family that can be easily forgotten. However, the tradition of the Church sees someone very active and deeply involved in the beautiful story of salvation. This year... Read More »
Rector Major's Message - May 2024 - Mary Help of Christians From here to the World
Posted: Wed, 1 May 2024 10:29
My affectionate and cordial greetings during this Easter season.
In a world in turmoil, agitated by armed conflicts and no small amount of violence, we continue to declare, announce, and proclaim that Jesus is Lord, raised by the Father, and that he LIVES. We strongly need His Presence in hearts willing to welcome Him.
I must confess to you that when I'm inside the magnificent Basilica of Mary Help of... Read More »

Sunday Reflection - 5th Sunday of Easter (Year B)
Posted: Fri, 26 Apr 2024 09:15
Today we are presented with a very familiar parable on unity—essential if we are going to work together to make our world a safer and happier place. Today's Gospel is the 'Vine and the Branches', and Jesus explains to his disciples that he is the vine, and we are the branches, with his Father as the caretaker, the gardener, and the dresser of the vineyard. Last week, Jesus told us that he was... Read More »

Sunday Reflection - 4th Sunday of Easter (Year B)

For us Salesians, the notion of the 'Good Shepherd' is so important as it reflects the real care that members of the Salesian family should have with young people. The Good Shepherd is not like the simple steward who at the slightest sign of danger runs away and leaves the flock abandoned. Likewise, within the Church, all the baptised faithful are called to follow the example of Jesus the Good Shepherd.... Read More »
Pilgrim Cross 2024
Posted: Fri, 19 Apr 2024 11:54
Pilgrim Cross began as Student Cross in 1948 when Wilfred Maundcote-Carter organised a 'Cross Carrying Pilgrimage of Penance and Prayer'. 30 male Catholic students and chaplains took part, walking from London to Walsingham during Holy Week. They had such a great time that at the end of the week they turned to each other and said 'shall we do it again next year?'
The next year it was so popular a second... Read More »
